What It Does

MotionMonkey automates the animation process for layered compositions in After Effects. Select anywhere from one to one hundred layers, adjust parameters in the control panel, and generate animated variations. You can create subtle motion for corporate work or wild kinetic animations for promos and titles. The plugin applies procedural movement to your layers based on settings you define, removing the need to manually keyframe position, rotation, or scale across multiple elements.

Key Features

Multi-layer support. Works with text layers, video footage, solids, shapes, pre-comps, Illustrator and Photoshop imports, nulls, and parented layers. Apply the same animation parameters to dozens of layers simultaneously.

Motion Mixer. Adds variation and complexity to animations by introducing secondary movement patterns. This keeps large layer stacks from looking too uniform or mechanical.

Multiple interpolations and speeds. Controls for timing, intensity, and easing let you match the mood of the project, whether it needs gentle floating motion or aggressive rhythmic hits.

Kuler palette import. Pull color schemes directly from Adobe Color (formerly Kuler) to quickly theme your animations.

MonkeyTools included. A free collection of utility scripts ships with MotionMonkey. Features include UnShy Selected Layers (reveals shy layers based on selection), Scene Maker (organizes compositions), Lock/Unlock controls, and Remove Duplicate Markers (cleans up marker layers imported from Premiere Pro). These are available in your main download folder.

Who It’s For

Useful for motion designers working on title sequences, lyric videos, infographics, or any project built from stacked layers. If you regularly animate text or shape layers with similar movement, MotionMonkey cuts down setup time. The randomization features help generate starting points that you can refine manually.

Pricing

MotionMonkey uses pay-what-you-want pricing. You choose the amount when purchasing (the suggested retail price is $89.99 for a single-user license, with floating server licenses also available). A free trial version is available with a 7-day limit and a maximum of 10 layers.
