What It Does
MotionAmigo connects an AI agent directly to your After Effects timeline. Type a prompt describing what you want, and it builds the composition as native, editable layers: shapes, text, solids, nulls, cameras, masks, expressions, motion paths. Everything stays live in AE, not baked footage.
The panel runs inside After Effects as a CEP extension. It connects to MotionAmigo’s hosted MCP server, which gives the agent access to 300+ After Effects tools. The AI backend is either Claude Code or Codex (ChatGPT), authenticated with your existing Pro or Max subscription. No API keys, no per-token billing.
Key Features
Natural language prompting. Describe a grid animation, bar chart, or logo reveal in plain text. The agent reads your prompt, checks any components you’ve configured, and writes keyframes, expressions, and layer properties directly into your timeline.
Structured input components. Beyond the chat prompt, you can pre-configure the agent’s output using dedicated panels: Basic Transforms (set which properties get keyframed, with qualifiers like Bounce or Anticipation), Keyframe Velocity (ease-in and ease-out influence), Color (palette swatches), Typography (named font styles), Motion Path (draw a Bezier curve the agent uses as a position track), and Physics (gravity, friction, mass).
Grids and Distributions. Generate algorithmic point arrangements including grid, radial, spiral, hex, halftone, lissajous, wave, brick, and cluster. The AI places layers at those points.
Sketch component. An AI sandbox for things AE can’t natively render: interactive prototypes, generative visuals, complex layouts. Runs HTML/SVG, React, PixiJS, or p5.js live inside the panel. Results can be rendered to footage.
Storyboard. Freehand drawing canvas at composition scale. Sketched keyframe ideas are sent to the agent as visual reference.
Raster-to-Bezier tracing. Drop in a reference image and the agent can convert it to editable vector shapes.
Multi-turn iteration. Steer or revise a generation mid-session, stop it if it goes off course, and roll back the whole thing with one click via the panel’s revert button.
Who It’s For
Motion designers who already pay for Claude Pro/Max or ChatGPT Plus/Pro and want to generate starting points for animations without writing ExtendScript or expressions manually. It’s also useful for quickly prototyping data-driven layouts (bar charts, grids, distributions) or iterating on motion concepts before committing to keyframes by hand.
Current limitations: macOS only (Apple Silicon, macOS 13 Ventura or later), After Effects 2024 or later. Windows support is planned. Intel Mac support is not currently available.
Pricing
MotionAmigo is priced at $5.99/month as a recurring monthly subscription. A free trial covering the full feature set is available before purchase. The AI backend (Claude or Codex) runs against your existing subscription and is billed separately by Anthropic or OpenAI.
