What It Does
Mocha Pro provides planar motion tracking, rotoscoping, object removal, and stabilization for professional VFX work. Built by Boris FX, it works as both a standalone application and a plugin for After Effects, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer, Nuke, and VEGAS Pro. The planar tracker analyzes entire surfaces instead of individual points, making it more reliable for complex shots with occlusion, motion blur, or changing perspective.
Key Features
The core tracking engine uses planar surfaces to follow movement through challenging conditions where point trackers fail. PowerMesh extends this with organic warp tracking, useful for faces, fabric, or any deforming surface. The lens module corrects or matches lens distortion, critical for VFX integration.
Rotoscoping tools include multiple workspace modes: Essentials for quick masks, Classic for standard roto work, and Big Picture for 4K+ footage review. Splines snap to edges automatically, and X-Spline controls offer more natural curved shapes than Bezier handles. Tracked data exports as corner pins, stabilized plates, or spline shapes to your host application.
Object removal combines tracking with temporal interpolation to clean up wires, rigs, or unwanted elements. The 3D camera solver generates camera data for 3D integration work. 360/VR tools handle equirectangular footage with proper planar tracking. GPU acceleration speeds up tracking and rendering, while OpenColorIO support maintains ACES and other managed color pipelines.
Who It’s For
Compositors working on feature films, commercials, or episodic content will find the planar tracker handles shots that defeat point-based systems. Rotoscoping artists benefit from edge-snapping and shape tracking that reduces manual keyframing. Colorists and finishing editors use it for stabilization and secondary color isolation. Motion designers apply it to title screens, logo animations, or any graphics that need to stick to moving surfaces.
Mocha Pro includes features beyond Mocha AE, the limited version bundled with After Effects subscriptions. You get multi-host licensing, the full lens module, stabilization export, and standalone operation with format support beyond what After Effects handles natively.
Pricing
Single-host licenses cost $295/year or $695 perpetual (includes 12 months of updates). Multi-host bundles run $595/year or $1,495 perpetual. Monthly subscriptions start at $37 for single-host access. Perpetual licenses require separate payment for upgrades after the initial support period. A 15-day trial provides full functionality. Register through the application while connected to the internet to activate trial access automatically.
