What It Does

Limber Lite was a free IK (inverse kinematics) rigging tool for After Effects, focused on quickly creating character limbs and managing layer versions. It let you draw a bendy path, click a button, and generate a rigging-ready limb. The plugin also introduced a layer versioning system, where you could tag specific layers to different versions and swap between them instantly with one click.

This plugin is no longer available. It’s been succeeded by Limber 2, a paid tool with significantly expanded features.

Key Features

IK mode created stretchy (or non-stretchy) limbs with anti-pop smoothing, useful for walk cycles and rubber-hose style animation. You could set separate lengths for foreshortening effects, making it easier to handle dimensional perspective changes in character movement.

Layer version switching let you tag multiple layers to specific setup versions. Toggle between them with one click, handy for swapping between different character states or animation setups without duplicating comps.

The setup was beginner-friendly, with minimal layer bloat and no performance lag on typical character rigs. It supported After Effects CC 2018 through 2025.

Who It’s For

Limber Lite was designed for character animators and motion designers who needed simple limb rigging without learning complex expression-based systems. It worked well for retro or rubber-hose animation styles, walk cycles, and basic character movement.

Since it’s discontinued, anyone looking for this functionality should consider Limber 2, which adds FK mode, 3-bone limbs, FreeK mode for front-facing walk cycles, and a built-in Limb Library with over 100 presets.

Pricing

Limber Lite was completely free with no trial period or time limits. It operated as pay-what-you-want before being discontinued. Limber 2, the current successor, is available as a one-time purchase for $65, with upgrade discounts for previous Limber v1 owners.
