What It Does
Koji Advance emulates 35mm film stocks to unify the look of composited footage. Select a camera format (DSLR, RED, Blackmagic, Arri Alexa), choose from 23 film stock presets, and refine with built-in color correction tools. The plugin handles color space conversions automatically, translating log formats like REDlogFilm, Arri Log C, and Sony S-Log into Rec.709.
Key Features
Film emulation developed with Dale Grahn. Grahn worked as a color timer for Steven Spielberg, bringing professional color science to the plugin’s development. The presets are based on densitometric measurements of actual 35mm prints, not visual approximations.
23 film stock presets and 5 grain stocks. Each preset replicates a specific film stock’s color response. The grain stocks, scanned from 35mm negative, add texture without requiring separate grain layers.
Advanced color tools. Includes lift/gamma/gain controls, density adjustments, and printer points for traditional film-style grading. White balance controls handle mixed-lighting scenarios.
Real-time playback. The plugin uses GPU acceleration for fast rendering. Many systems can play back comps with Koji applied at full resolution without pre-rendering.
Who It’s For
Useful for finishing work where footage from multiple cameras or CG elements needs a cohesive film look. Colorists working with log formats will appreciate the automatic color space handling. The printer points and density controls are particularly relevant for editors familiar with photochemical workflows.
