What It Does

GridGen creates procedural grid layouts inside After Effects using shape layers. It gives you control over recursion depth, split behavior, symmetry, and composition balance. You can generate grids, apply animation presets, batch process multiple variations, and export high-resolution files (up to 16K) or vectors (SVG, AI) for use in other programs.

The system includes 16 built-in generative tools, 60+ presets covering animations and effects, and 200+ curated color themes. Templates for Element 3D come bundled, with pre-built lights, controllers, and Essential Graphics panels.

Key Features

Generative Controls. Adjust grid recursion, split behavior, symmetry, and balance. The interface lets you fine-tune how the grid divides and arranges shapes.

Batch Generation. Split a single grid composition into multiple parts across separate layers. Useful for creating variations or preparing different sections for individual treatment.

Color Themes. Access 200+ pre-built color palettes. Regenerate, randomize, or recolor grids with one click. You can also create custom themes.

Animation Presets. Apply animated generators during grid creation. These include controllable FX behaviors, procedural texture systems with adjustable repetition and layering, and 3D/symmetrical compositions using HUD or glitch-style builds.

Export Options. Output as PNG (HD to 16K), SVG, or AI for external editing. Vectors preserve the procedural structure for further refinement in Illustrator or other vector programs.

Master Controllers. Global and per-group controllers manage visibility, scale, extrusion, position, offset, stroke, and color. Built-in wiggle and animation options included.

Element 3D Boilerplate. Auto-generates shape layers, masks, and texture comps ready for Element 3D. Includes a camera rig (with camera shake and isometric toggle), light rig (3 orbiting lights with individual controls), and stacker tool (converts layers to 3D and arranges them along the Z-axis).

Tiler Tool. Divides layers into groups and arranges them in rows or columns for tiled layouts.

Who It’s For

Motion designers working with geometric compositions, technical overlays, or HUD graphics. Useful if you need modular layouts, procedural textures, or Element 3D setups. Also helpful for creating export-ready grids for print or web design workflows.

Pricing

GridGen uses a pay-what-you-want model. You set your own price (the suggested standard is $119). Upgrade pricing is available for previous buyers. Note: Element 3D v2 is required for the 3D templates but is sold separately. Compatible with After Effects 2022 and later.
