What It Does
GEOlayers Mapdata provides licensed access to OpenStreetMap data through MapTiler Cloud for use in commercial video projects. It works exclusively with the GEOlayers 3 plugin, letting you build animated maps inside After Effects with real geographic data. This is a data service, not a standalone plugin.
Key Features
Commercial licensing. The service grants you legal rights to use MapTiler’s map data in paid projects (attribution required in map corners or end credits).
Direct styling in After Effects. Adjust colors, line widths, fonts, and hillshading without leaving your comp. Show or hide feature groups to match your design.
Click-to-import features. Click locations on the preview map to pull OpenStreetMap features into your comp. Import features visible in the current view automatically.
Multilingual labels. Add place names and labels in different languages through Mapcomp label layers.
3D building geometry. Generate extruded buildings from footprint data. Useful for architectural visualizations or establishing shots.
Watermask Mapcomps. Separate water features (lakes, rivers, coastlines) into dedicated layers for custom styling.
Who It’s For
Motion designers building infographics, news graphics, or documentary sequences that need accurate geographic context. Useful for title sequences showing real locations, data visualizations with geographic components, or travel videos with animated route maps.
Pricing
This product operated as a pay-what-you-want model on aescripts.com but is no longer sold there. As of December 2020, new users subscribe directly through MapTiler. GEOlayers 3 includes a free 2-week trial of MapTiler Cloud. After that, MapTiler’s Flex plan costs $25/month for commercial use (covers individual creators with up to 100,000 channel subscribers; broadcast and streaming projects require custom licensing). Existing subscriptions purchased before December 2020 remain valid until expiration.
