What It Does

FX Gradient generates linear, radial, angular, and reflected gradient ramps in After Effects without manually adjusting effect parameters. Click a button, pick from 30 color presets, and the gradient applies to your selected layers. You can rotate gradients 90° with Shift+click or invert colors with Alt+click. It works on its own using native After Effects effects, but pairs well with the YY Ramp+ plugin for faster performance.

Key Features

Four gradient types. Linear, radial, angular, and reflected ramps apply with one click. Angular ramps include a Tiles Angle parameter for rotation, useful for radar or circular designs.

30 color presets. Twenty-one presets use two colors. The remaining nine apply a Colorama effect for multi-color gradients with individual opacity control. The Alpha preset provides a black-and-white gradient you can colorize with a fill effect. Changing presets updates existing Gradient Ramp or Tint effects on selected layers.

Tiling options. Number of Tiles, Tiles Angle, Cycle, and Seamless let you create repeating or seamless gradient patterns. Useful for backgrounds or stylized visuals.

Special FX. Arty Grain adds retro texture with Grain Diffusion, Clamp Colors, and Grain Evolution. Turbulence applies displacement with Amplitude, Scale, Complexity, and Evolution controls, similar to Cinema 4D’s gradient shader. Both effects use native After Effects tools driven by expressions.

YY Ramp+ compatibility. If you install the YY Ramp+ plugin, FX Gradient can toggle SFX on or off. SFX off applies only the YY Ramp+ effect for faster performance. Without the plugin, FX Gradient stacks native effects to mimic advanced gradients, which requires more processing.

Who It’s For

Motion designers who want faster gradient creation without manually tweaking effect properties. Anyone building backgrounds, tints, or stylized visuals with repeating or textured gradients. Works on solid layers, footage, text, and shape layers, though angular ramps have limitations on non-rectangular layers without YY Ramp+.
