What It Does

Fractal Noise Browser is an After Effects extension that organizes over 200 Fractal Noise and Turbulent Noise presets into a visual browser. Instead of tweaking parameters blindly, you can see thumbnail images and animated previews of each preset before applying it. The extension works with both Fractal Noise (GPU-accelerated) and Turbulent Noise, letting you choose which effect to use.

Key Features

200+ curated presets organized into 9 categories: Atmospheric, Fluid, Glitch, Granular, Grunge, Organic, Stylistic, Terrain, and general patterns. Each preset displays a thumbnail and animated preview so you can see what you’re getting.

Resizable and dockable interface that scrolls through the preset library. Double-click a preset to apply it, or single-click and hit Apply.

Randomize Seed option generates instant variations of any preset without changing the underlying settings.

Animation controls let you add Evolution expressions for continuous motion or create seamless loops (Fractal Noise only). Enter a speed in degrees per second, and the extension handles the rest.

Smart application settings let you choose whether to replace an existing noise effect or add a new one to your layer. Fractal Noise is set as the default because it’s GPU-accelerated and loopable, making it faster than Turbulent Noise despite outdated claims in some tutorials.

Who It’s For

Useful for motion designers building textured backgrounds, VFX artists creating atmospheric simulations, or anyone working with displacement maps and organic textures. The visual browser saves time compared to manually adjusting Fractal Noise parameters. Works well paired with Colorama Browser (available as a bundle) for adding color gradients to your noise.

Common use cases include grunge overlays, glitch effects on text using Displacement Map, animated backgrounds with CC Ball Action or Stardust, and procedural terrain textures.

Pricing

Fractal Noise Browser uses a pay-what-you-want pricing model. The developer suggests $35 as a starting point, though you can name your own price. A free trial is available with access to the first seven presets in each category. A bundle with Colorama Browser is also offered at a discount.
