What It Does

FontMixer solves a common font management headache: bloated font lists with no easy way to group or compare styles. It lets you combine up to 100 fonts (TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2) into a single .ttf file, install it once, and then browse and apply those fonts directly from an extension panel inside Adobe apps.

The merged file uses a fmx_yourname.ttf naming convention and maps each font to unused character ranges, which keeps them accessible through the extension while leaving your main font list clean.

Key Features

Font merging. Drop or select up to 100 font files, name the output, and generate a single installable .ttf. Works with TTF, OTF, WOFF, and WOFF2 source files.

Live preview. The Text tab shows all installed fmx_ fonts with editable preview text. Styles update in real time as you type.

After Effects integration. Create new text layers with a selected font style, or inject an expression into an existing text layer. A slider in the layer effects controls typeface switching, which is useful for quickly cycling through options during title design.

Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign support. Select a text layer in the app, click a font in the extension, and it applies. Note that the “Create Text Layer” function in Photoshop does not work inside Artboards.

Premade style collections. A Browse tab provides curated packs including Gothic, Cyberpunk and Y2K, Brush, Script, Cartoon, and Vintage, each with up to around 100 fonts sourced from open font libraries like dafont.com. These are not included with the extension and must be downloaded separately. Always verify individual font licenses before commercial use.

Who It’s For

Motion designers who frequently audition display fonts for title sequences, lower thirds, or stylized type treatments will get the most out of FontMixer. It is also useful for editors who want to keep thematic font collections organized without cluttering the system font list.

Keep in mind the limitations: only Latin characters and numbers are supported, no extended character sets or non-Latin scripts. Large packs can increase file size and may cause instability in older Adobe versions.

Pricing

FontMixer is a one-time paid purchase at $29.90. A free trial is available via aescripts. Upgrade pricing may be available for eligible users when logged in.
