What It Does
File Hunter locates missing assets in After Effects projects and relinks them when files have been moved. The plugin tags layers to specific file versions, allowing you to switch between them with one click. Useful when collaborators move files without notifying the team, or when managing multiple versions of source footage.
Important: This plugin has been discontinued. The developer recommends using QuickLink Items as the replacement for similar functionality.
Key Features
Asset relinking. Searches for and reconnects missing footage, images, or other linked files in your project. Helps recover projects when file paths break.
Version tagging. Tag layers to specific file versions and toggle between them instantly. Helpful for A/B testing different footage or managing client revision cycles.
Batch operations. Relink multiple missing files at once rather than hunting them down individually in the project panel.
Limitations
File Hunter cannot correctly relink Photoshop or Illustrator files that contain multiple layers. It also does not support non-Latin alphabets, limiting use in projects with non-English filenames.
Pricing
Originally sold for $29.00 (special price $23.20 at discontinuation). No longer available for purchase. Users seeking similar functionality should consider QuickLink Items instead.
Compatibility
Last updated August 16, 2022 (version 1.0.11). Compatible with After Effects 2014 through 2022, including Apple Silicon support in the final update.
