What It Does

Fat Frank is an animated typeface system that brings typographic animation into After Effects through pre-built character animations. Rather than manually animating letterforms, you type normally while each character plays its own built-in animation sequence. The typeface features rounded corners and a bold, geometric design inspired by fast-food branding.

Key Features

JSX format integration. Works with Font Manager (sold separately) to let you type animated text the same way you’d use a standard font. Adjust tracking, line spacing, and alignment while each character maintains its animation.

Four-color customization. Control up to four colors within each character’s animation, useful for matching brand palettes or creating multi-tone effects.

Stroke control. Adjust stroke width and choose between round or butt cap styles, giving you some flexibility in the typeface’s visual weight.

Static version included. A non-animated variant ships with the animated version, usable in applications outside After Effects or for situations where animation isn’t needed.

Who It’s For

Motion designers working on title sequences, product videos, or social media content where bold, friendly typography fits the brief. The fast-food aesthetic makes it particularly relevant for food brands, retail, or anything requiring approachable, high-energy type. Works best for headlines and short phrases rather than body copy.

Pricing

Pricing is pay-what-you-want (minimum not specified on the listing). A free trial includes a selection of animated characters. The regular suggested price is $64 for the animated version, with a static-only version available separately. Purchasing four or more Animography typefaces applies a 25% discount automatically.

The typeface requires After Effects CS6 or later. For the intended workflow, you’ll also want Font Manager, which is sold separately. Without Font Manager, you can manually place characters from the included .aep file using the free Animography Controller.
