What It Does

ExpressionUniversalizer converts expressions in After Effects projects to work across all supported languages. If you distribute templates or work with international clients, you’ve encountered projects that break when opened in different language versions of After Effects. This plugin solves that problem.

Run the plugin in the same language your expressions were written in (German expressions need German AE, for example). Once processed, the project opens in any language version of After Effects. The end user doesn’t need the plugin installed.

Key Features

C++ parsing engine. Version 4 rebuilt the core expression parser in C++, making it 10–20% faster and more accurate than previous versions. It handles 99.9% of expressions without manual intervention.

Multi-language support. Works with all native After Effects languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Chinese.

Batch processing. Process entire folders of After Effects project files with advanced filtering and renaming options. Particularly useful for template libraries or large client deliveries.

Data layer compatibility. Supports expressions referencing JSON, CSV, and other data layer formats.

Template marketplace features. Adds a “Universalized” tag to comp comments in the project panel. Adobe Stock and other marketplaces use this to verify compatibility, reducing support issues and improving approval rates.

KBar integration. Launch as a service from KBar using JSON arguments. Example for scanning selected layers:

{"scan":"layers","suppress":true,"add_tag":true,"remove_disabled_expressions":true,"logfile":"~/Desktop/EU_log.txt"}

Duik awareness. Skips Duik expressions by default (they don’t need universalizing and some crash AE when processed). Optional preference to process them anyway.

Who It’s For

Template authors selling on Adobe Stock, Envato, or similar marketplaces will find this essential for international distribution. Motion designers working with international clients or studios can deliver projects that open correctly regardless of language settings. Studios managing large template libraries benefit from batch processing capabilities.

Pricing

Pay-what-you-want model (suggested price $49.99 for new users). Users who purchased version 3 can upgrade for $35 when logged into the same account. Trial version available for testing.
