What It Does
Cut’n’Pack splits layers by masks and organizes them into pre-compositions automatically. Select a layer with masks, run the script, and it generates separate layers or optimally sized precomps based on each mask. The plugin handles text, shape layers, vector files (AI/EPS), footage, and solids, preserving transformations and parenting throughout.
Instead of manually duplicating layers, drawing masks, and adjusting comp sizes, this script does it in one click. Useful when you need to fracture text into individual characters, break vector artwork into separate shapes, or cut footage into masked sections for transitions and reveals.
Key Features
Break Layer by Mask. Splits a layer into independent parts based on its masks. Each mask becomes its own layer while position, rotation, and scale remain intact. Works for motion graphics, typography, shape-based transitions, and UI animations.
Break Text by Symbols. Converts text layers into separate shape layers, one per character. Gives you per-symbol control for kinetic typography, logo animations, and glitch effects without relying on text animators.
Masks on Shape Layers. Generates masks directly on shape layers based on individual shape element bounds. Applies soft masks with feathering to vector layers without needing precomps or helper layers. You can also fragment shapes using masks with the CUT function.
Optimal Pre-Comp Text. Creates a precomp sized exactly to the text layer’s bounds, preserving position and timing. Keeps the project organized and eliminates unnecessary empty space.
Create Pre-Comps Fast. Generates precomps from custom-drawn masks, matching the exact bounds of each mask. Maintains original positions in the main comp. Useful for modular animation, transitions, screen replacements, and complex scene organization.
Fragmentation Solids. Breaks solid layers into multiple masked fragments using preset patterns. Good for shatter effects, dynamic transitions, abstract motion, and procedural layouts.
Break Vector Files. Splits imported EPS and AI files into fully independent shape layers, giving you control over each element for animation and effects. Ideal for logo animations, icon systems, and explainer graphics.
The interface is dockable and compact. A roadmap shows planned features, and the plugin receives regular updates.
Who It’s For
Motion designers working with text animation, shape-based graphics, or complex masked setups. Useful for kinetic typography, logo reveals, transitions, UI animations, and procedural motion graphics. If you regularly duplicate layers and adjust masks manually, this automates that process.
Pricing
Cut’n’Pack uses a pay-what-you-want model. The developer suggests $39 as the standard price, but you can choose your own amount. As new features are added, the suggested price may increase. Buyers receive all future updates for free.
