What It Does
Compression is an animated typeface built for After Effects that turns static text into kinetic type with a single slider. Each character animates through four distinct stages (in, morph, morph, out) as you move the control from 0 to 400. The typeface loops seamlessly, meaning the out animation matches the in, making it useful for continuous motion graphics.
The design itself is a condensed, high-impact style suited for headlines where space is tight but legibility matters. Heavy weight and geometric forms make it readable at any size.
Key Features
0-400 animation slider. Move through all four animation stages in one continuous motion. Apply custom easing curves to control timing, or use expressions for bounce and other effects.
Directional control. Set characters to animate from up, down, left, right, or randomize the direction across your text.
Seamless looping. The in and out animations are designed to connect perfectly, so you can loop text infinitely without visible seams.
Color and random seed. Customize color for each use. Adjust the random seed to vary how the morph stages behave across different characters.
JSX format included. The plugin ships with both traditional After Effects compositions and a lightweight JSX version that integrates with Font Manager. The JSX format loads faster and works with Font Manager’s typing interface, so you don’t need to manually place characters.
Font Manager and Animography Controller support. Use Font Manager to type naturally and control size, tracking, line spacing, and alignment. Font Manager auto-generates a controller for Compression’s settings. Alternatively, use the free Animography Controller to drag characters into comps and parent settings with one click.
