What It Does
Coati fixes a persistent annoyance in After Effects: null layers that appear too small in 4K compositions or too large in smaller ones. It adjusts the source size of newly created nulls and applies masks to change their apparent size without breaking keyframe animations.
Key Features
Custom source size. Set any value for new null layers instead of the default 100-pixel square. Particularly useful when jumping between compositions of different resolutions.
Mask application. Apply a mask to new nulls, changing their visual size while preserving keyframe animations. Since masks don’t affect position or scale keyframes, your animation stays intact while the viewport representation becomes more manageable.
Auto mode. Set source size or mask to “Auto” and Coati scales based on composition width. It uses a ratio of 100 pixels at 1920px width, so a 4K comp automatically gets 200-pixel nulls. The apparent size stays consistent across different resolutions.
Batch resizing. Select multiple existing nulls and resize their source or masks in one action. Useful when converting projects between formats or standardizing null sizes across a template.
Who It’s For
Motion designers working across multiple composition sizes or anyone tired of hunting for tiny nulls in high-res comps. Especially helpful if you build rigs or templates that need to work at different resolutions.
Pricing
Coati uses pay-what-you-want pricing. You choose the amount when purchasing. The suggested price is $19.99, and a full-featured trial is available with no restrictions.
