What It Does

Co-Dependencies solves a common file management problem: keeping After Effects source files organized when they’re scattered across downloads folders, external drives, or servers. Instead of using After Effects’ native Collect Files (which duplicates everything for each project), this script centralizes shared assets while automatically relinking your project items.

The tool offers three core functions. Migrate this Project moves or copies external files into your project directory and relinks them automatically. Cleanup Directory analyzes multiple After Effects projects to catalog which files are actually being used, then removes unused files from your chosen directory. Link to Items connects to files in a specific directory without moving anything.

Key Features

Flexible file handling. Choose whether to copy files (keeping the originals) or move them (to remove duplicates). You can affect only selected items or process the entire project.

Smart filtering. Skip files based on extension, characters in the file path, or data size. Useful when you want to exclude certain file types or large renders from the migration.

Terminal transfers. Optionally transfer data using Terminal or Command Prompt instead of tying up After Effects while large files move. This keeps your workspace responsive during long copy operations.

Folder hierarchy preservation. Maintain your After Effects folder structure when moving or copying files, so your organized bins don’t become a flat mess.

The script works with both Mac and Windows file systems and supports After Effects 2023, 2024, and 2025. You can also remove proxy links from project items during the migration process.

Who It’s For

Useful for anyone juggling multiple After Effects projects that share source files, particularly if you’re archiving projects or cleaning up before handoff. Motion designers working with reusable assets across clients will appreciate the centralized organization without the file duplication that comes with standard Collect Files workflows.

Pricing

Co-Dependencies uses a pay-what-you-want model with a suggested minimum of $14.99. Individual users can pay any amount they choose. Teams and businesses must pay the suggested price to receive a valid license.
