What It Does

BorderPatrol solves a common frustration with After Effects shape layers: scaling a shape typically distorts stroke widths and corner radii. This script keeps those properties intact. Adjust your shape layer’s scale property, and shapes resize relative to the layer’s anchor point while maintaining their original stroke widths and rounded corners. Works with both parametric shapes (rectangles, ellipses) and bezier path shapes.

Key Features

Anchor point flexibility. Shapes resize relative to the shape layer’s anchor point, letting you reposition or animate it at any time. The “Leave Anchor” option maintains stroke widths and rounded corners without touching the anchor point position.

Collapse Stroke. Sometimes you need a shape to shrink down to nothing. This option lets stroke widths collapse along with the shape, useful for reveal animations or transitions where shapes disappear completely.

Lottie and Bodymovin compatibility. Export your animated shapes for web or mobile use. Depending on the platform, you may need to bake expressions. Check Lottie’s supported features list for specifics.

Who It’s For

Motion designers working with shape-based UI animations, responsive layouts, or projects where shapes need to scale without breaking. If you’ve ever scaled a shape layer and then manually fixed dozens of stroke width keyframes, this is your tool. Particularly useful for social media templates where aspect ratios vary, or any project involving animated icons and interface elements.

Pricing

BorderPatrol uses a pay-what-you-want model. The suggested price is $35, but you can choose your own amount. A free trial is available to test compatibility with your workflow before purchasing.
