What It Does

Beatnik analyzes audio and generates time remapping effects automatically. Point it at a layer with audio, click a button, and it creates speed ramps, freeze frames, or complete montages timed to the beat. The script uses peak detection to identify beats, then applies time effects without requiring manual keyframing.

It works with existing marker-based workflows too. If you’ve already placed markers using Beat Assistant or BeatEdit, Beatnik can sync time effects to those instead of analyzing the audio itself.

Key Features

Two peak detection algorithms. Choose between different methods for identifying audio peaks depending on your content. Works well for music with clear percussion or spoken word with rhythm.

BPM sync. Lock effects to a specific tempo when working with music that has a consistent beat. Useful for looping backgrounds or motion graphics timed to a soundtrack.

Retempo mode. Adjust the speed of footage to match a target duration while preserving audio sync. For example, stretch a 30-second clip to 45 seconds while keeping beats aligned.

Randomize segment order. Generate quick montages by shuffling the order of time segments. Good for rapid cutting between shots in time with music.

Stop motion simulation. Create stutter effects or hold-frame looks by forcing specific frame rates in time with the audio.

Trapcode Soundkeys integration. Use audio amplitude data from Soundkeys to drive time remapping in addition to beat detection.

Toolbox utilities. Additional controls for syncing loops, separating marker placement from sync application, and choosing interpolation types (linear, ease, hold frames).

Who It’s For

Motion designers working on music videos, promotional content, or any project where footage needs to hit specific audio moments. Useful if you’re cutting montages quickly or need automatic speed ramps without hand-animating time remapping curves.

Also helpful for editors who want to experiment with timing variations. Because it generates keyframes automatically, you can try different settings rapidly and compare results.
