What It Does
BAO Mask 3D Warper converts After Effects masks into 3D geometry. Draw a mask, and the plugin extrudes it into a live 3D model that responds to composition cameras and lights. It also offers a 2D warping mode for precise character rigging without the puppet tool.
The plugin consists of three modular components: Mask 3D Warper generates the geometry, M3DW Distorter animates deformations, and M3DW Renderer handles final output with intersections and lighting. You can stack multiple instances to control different shapes independently.
Key Features
GPU-accelerated rendering lets 3D shapes intersect with native After Effects 3D layers. The renderer respects composition cameras and lights, treating mask-based models like standard 3D elements.
OBJ and OBJ sequence export sends geometry to Cinema 4D, Blender, Element 3D, or any software that reads OBJ files. Animate your mask vertices in After Effects and export the result as a mesh sequence.
2D warping mode positions vertices along mask paths for precise layer deformation. Unlike the puppet tool, you define warp grids with masks, giving exact control over rigging points.
Light path extrusion uses a light’s position to define extrusion direction. Move the light, and the extrusion follows. Other features include distortion controls, explode effects, open mask support, UV mapping, and terrain/bump mapping.
BAO Mask Avenger integration links mask vertices to nulls for full character rigging. Build a 3D character skeleton directly in After Effects by parenting mask points to null objects.
Who It’s For
Motion designers who need quick 3D geometry without leaving After Effects. Character animators rigging 2D or 3D assets. Anyone exporting mesh sequences to external 3D software.
Pricing
BAO Mask 3D Warper is pay-what-you-want, with a suggested price of $149.99 for a single user license. Registered users may qualify for reduced upgrade pricing. Also available in the BAO Distortion Bundle ($156.99) with BAO Boa and BAO Layer Sculptor, saving 25% versus individual purchases.
