What It Does

Bad Romance is an animated typeface built around rough vectorized brush strokes. The design emphasizes randomness in position, size, and rotation to create organic, hand-drawn title treatments. It pairs well with clean sans serifs for typographic contrast or can be styled with hard drop shadows for grindhouse film titles.

Designed by Natanael Ginting as part of the Animography collection, it was previously available through aescripts but has since been discontinued.

Key Features

Font Manager integration. The JSX version works with Font Manager (sold separately), letting you type directly in After Effects with control over size, tracking, line spacing, and text alignment. Font Manager automatically generates a controller for customizing the typeface’s parameters.

Animography Controller compatibility. Use the free Animography Controller tool to drag individual characters into your comp and parent controller settings with one click.

Single color customization. The typeface supports one customizable color layer, keeping the setup simple while allowing for creative styling through layer mattes and effects.

Pricing

Bad Romance used a pay-what-you-want pricing model when it was available. The plugin has been discontinued and is no longer sold. If you previously purchased it, the JSX format required Font Manager, which offered a free trial.
