What It Does

aw-Autosaver replaces After Effects’ built-in autosave system with granular control over when and how your projects get backed up. Set custom save intervals, choose exactly how many versions to keep, and organize backups in dedicated folders. The script gives you both automated protection and manual control when you need to save a checkpoint.

Key Features

Custom autosave intervals. Set your own timing instead of relying on After Effects’ defaults. Useful when working on complex comps where frequent saves matter.

Version number monitoring. Track how many backup copies exist at any time. Configure the maximum number of versions to keep, and older backups get pruned automatically.

Manual backup control. Click to save a backup copy whenever you want, independent of the auto-timer. Alt+Click to add a comment to that version, which helps when you need to mark specific milestones or experimental variations.

Backup location control. Save project copies to any folder on your system, not just the default location. Each project can have its own dedicated versions folder.

Single copy mode. Option to save only the project file without creating multiple versions, useful for quick updates or when disk space is limited.

One-click folder access. Open the project’s folder or versions folder directly from the panel. Saves time when you need to locate backup files.

Customizable interface. Adjust the panel layout to match your workspace. Settings persist across sessions.

Versions folder backup. Auto-backup the entire versions folder to a secondary location for extra redundancy.

Who It’s For

Motion designers working on long-term projects where version history matters. Freelancers who need to recover from client-requested changes. Anyone who’s lost work to a crash and wants more control than After Effects’ default autosave provides.

Works in After Effects CS6 through 2025.
