What It Does

Animography Controller links multiple animated typeface characters to a single null layer in After Effects. Drag your characters into a composition, select them, click “Create Controller,” and the script generates a null layer at the top with expression-based controls for all customizable properties. Colors, animations, and timing adjustments apply across all selected characters at once instead of editing each layer individually.

The script duplicates controlled characters into a folder for organization and works exclusively with Animography typefaces (available in AEP and JSX formats). It’s part of the Font Manager ecosystem, a larger toolset for working with animated type.

Key Features

One-click controller creation. Select your character layers and generate a null layer that parents all of them. No manual expression writing.

Automatic property linking. Controls like size, tracking, and animation parameters connect via expressions when using Animography typefaces. Adjust one slider to update every character.

Layer organization. Characters get duplicated into a folder structure, keeping your timeline clean when working with long text strings.

Font Manager integration. Works alongside Font Manager for more advanced typography workflows, though Animography Controller functions as a standalone tool.

Who It’s For

Useful for motion designers working with Animography’s animated typeface library who need to animate text strings character-by-character. If you’re building kinetic typography pieces where each letter needs individual animation but shared styling, this saves time compared to manually linking properties.
