What It Does
animationPATTERNS applies custom easing curves to keyframes in After Effects without writing expressions manually. Select keyframes on position, scale, rotation, or most other properties, click a pattern name (bounce, rubber, pendulum), and the interpolation updates. You can still drag keyframes afterward, and the easing adjusts automatically. The plugin comes with a dockable panel and a set of default patterns you can apply in one click.
Editing a pattern changes every animation using it across your project. This makes it easy to iterate on timing without hunting through layers. The tool replaces any existing expressions on properties when you apply a pattern, so it’s not compatible with layers already driven by custom code.
Key Features
Pre-built easing types. The plugin includes default patterns like bounce, rubber, and pendulum. These work on motion properties (position, scale, rotation) and most others except shape properties.
Editable patterns. Open any pattern, adjust its curve, and every animation using it updates immediately. You can also create new patterns from scratch and save them for later.
Drag-and-adjust workflow. After applying a pattern, move keyframes in the timeline or change their values. The easing recalculates in real time based on the new timing.
Dockable interface. The panel lives in your workspace like any other After Effects palette. Access patterns without switching windows.
The script file (animationPATTERNS.jsx) installs in your ScriptUI Panels directory. It works on After Effects CS3 through CC 2018.
Pro Version Differences
A separate pro version adds organization and workflow features: multiple pattern layers to group eases, project-wide pattern libraries, curved motion path support, pattern copying from existing animations, and bake/unbake for faster renders. The pro version costs $39.99 as a separate purchase.
Who It’s For
Useful for motion designers who apply the same easing style across multiple layers or projects. If you frequently adjust timing after setting keyframes, the ability to drag frames and keep the interpolation curve intact saves setup time. Particularly helpful for title animations, logo reveals, or icon movements where consistent easing matters.
Pricing
animationPATTERNS uses pay-what-you-want pricing with a suggested minimum of $24.99. You can pay any amount as an individual user, though businesses and teams are expected to pay the suggested price for a valid license. It’s a one-time payment with no subscription.
