What It Does

Animation Stopwatch converts the timing process for traditional animators working in After Effects. Instead of wrestling with timecode, you measure and block out timing in frame numbers, the way animators have worked for decades.

The script gives you a dedicated stopwatch interface that counts in frames at whatever frame rate you’re working with. Press start, watch your reference or act out your timing, hit lap when an action beats, and you’ve got a frame-accurate record of your blocking.

Key Features

Lap function. Record timing for multiple actions in sequence. Each lap marks a beat, building a timing chart as you go. Useful when blocking out a character performance or multi-part action sequence.

Frame rate dropdown. Quick access to standard rates like 24fps and 30fps, plus PAL support. There’s also a custom input field if you’re working at an unusual rate.

Frame number display. Everything shows in frames, not hours:minutes:seconds:frames. Simpler math, faster blocking, less mental translation from how you think about animation timing.

Who It’s For

Traditional animators moving into After Effects. Anyone blocking out hand-drawn animation, character performance, or frame-by-frame work who thinks in drawings per beat, not decimal timecode.

Also useful for motion designers roughing out complex timing where counting frames is clearer than reading timecode.
