What It Does
AEVIEWER 2 replaces the built-in media browser with a panel that previews After Effects projects, Motion Graphics templates, audio files, images, fonts, scripts, and more before you import them. Double-click a file to bring it into your composition. No more opening projects to see what’s inside or scrubbing through audio blindly.
The free version handles AEP, MOGRT, FFX, PSD, AI, audio with waveforms, and common video formats. Scripts (JSX/JSXBIN) run with one click. The Pro version adds font previewing, C4D files, EXR sequences, advanced search, file renaming, and authoring tools for template creators.
Key Features
Video previews for projects. Hover over an AEP or MOGRT file to see an animated preview. The plugin reads compositions marked with an “AEVIEWER” comment or defaults to the first comp if none is marked.
Audio waveforms. Waveforms appear before you play a sound. Hover to listen, making it faster to pick the right track or SFX.
Collections. Create virtual folders to group files from different locations. Useful for assembling inspiration boards or organizing assets by theme.
Instant search. Type keywords to filter files across subfolders. Results appear as you type.
Quick access sidebar. Pin frequently used folders for one-click navigation.
Import options. Standard import, import to composition start, import and replace selected layer. Pro adds import and precomp.
Font previewing (Pro). Browse installed fonts with custom preview text. Double-click to apply to selected text layers.
Expression presets (Pro). Select an expression, right-click, and save it as a preset. Build your own library.
Packages tab. Install and manage template packs, including encrypted and trial versions.
API. Developers can integrate custom tools or create secured packages. Documentation available on GitHub.
