What It Does
This pair of scripts automates null object creation and parenting in After Effects. Add Parented Null to Selected Layers creates a single null and parents all selected layers to it. Add Parented Null to Each Selected Layer creates a separate null for each selected layer, positioned at that layer’s anchor point.
Key Features
Customizable null naming. Set naming patterns through user variables. Append the original layer name and add suffixes like “-Null” to keep your project organized.
Two workflow options. Use the single-null script when you need to transform a group of layers together. Use the individual-null script when each layer needs its own control point for independent transforms or rigging setups.
Automatic positioning. When creating individual nulls, each one centers on its parent layer’s anchor point. No manual repositioning needed.
Works with animated geometry, GPU-accelerated layers, and native 3D layers. Compatible with After Effects CS6 through 2025.
Who It’s For
Useful for motion designers who build character rigs, set up control systems for complex animations, or need quick parent-child relationships without manually creating and positioning nulls. Particularly helpful when working with multiple layers that share a common transformation point.
Pricing
