What It Does
2D Special Effects is a library of hand-drawn frame-by-frame effects for After Effects and Premiere Pro. Originally sold as a standalone product for $59, it’s now available only through Mister Horse’s subscription service. The pack works with the free Animation Composer (After Effects) and Premiere Composer (Premiere Pro) plugins.
Each effect is drawn frame-by-frame at 30fps, giving it a cel-animated look suitable for action sequences, motion graphics, or stylized title work. Effects are vector-based and scale to any resolution without quality loss.
Key Features
Hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation. Every effect is illustrated and animated manually at 30fps, which you can adjust downward if needed. This gives the effects a hand-crafted appearance distinct from particle systems or procedural generators.
Color customization and scalability. Each effect ships as a vector .swf file created in Adobe Animate. You can change colors to match your project and scale to any resolution.
Master Properties controls. Effects include adjustable parameters through After Effects Master Properties. You can layer additional effects on top for further customization.
After Effects and Premiere Pro versions. In After Effects, effects are placed as native compositions for full editing access. In Premiere Pro, they’re delivered as MOGRTs through Premiere Composer.

Motion designers working on kinetic titles, action-style promos, or stylized explainer videos. The cel-animated look fits projects that need a hand-drawn aesthetic, especially where traditional particle effects would look too digital.

This product is discontinued as a standalone purchase. Access to 2D Special Effects now requires a Mister Horse subscription, which includes all of their animation libraries and presets.
